#1 Record / Radio City by Big Star

About

Among the sacred texts of ’70s rock, Big Star’s first two albums have a very special place. That’s because songwriters Alex Chilton and Chris Bell shared an equally astonishing knack for conveying teenage hopes and yearnings in songs that merged all the shimmering goodness of The Beatles, The Kinks, and The Byrds. The results could be as poignant as “Thirteen,” a highlight of 1972’s #1 Record, or as exhilarating as “O My Soul,” the rockier blast of power pop that opened 1974’s Radio City.
