As principal songwriter, and after early consultation with producer Rick Rubin and Beastie Boys’ Mike D., <i>On My One</i> is filled with deeper personal strata and a range of musical styles. “Gimme the Love” and “Ain’t No Rhyme,” with beats and rap-singing informed by hip-hop and electronic music, signals a confident leap outside of his comfort zone.
