About
Before his days as The New Pornographers’ resident secret genius and before the lush arrangements and shape-shifting styles of his later solo work, Dan Bejar’s Destroyer project was a vessel for his quirky, stripped-down folk songs. Documented in all their creaky glory on this early lo-fi cassette, Casio-keyboard lullabies like “No One Needs to Know” sit beside aching voice-and-guitar ballads like “Marrying the Hammer,” exposing Bejar’s surreal wordplay and knotty emotional nakedness and pointing to the beautiful work to come.
