Purpendicular is the fifteenth studio album by Deep Purple. It was recorded in 1995 and 1996 and released in February (UK) and April (US) 1996. In November 1993, in the midst of a tour supporting their previous studio album, The Battle Rages On, Ritchie Blackmore left Deep Purple for the second time in the band's history (previously in 1975), ending the second reunion period of the classic Mark II line-up. Joe Satriani joined temporarily to fill-in for Blackmore on the remainder of the tour but was unable to join the band full time. Thus, Mark VI lasted for only a .
