Guillermo Scott Herren uses his Prefuse 73 moniker to produce a two-part odyssey that resembles a constantly shifting prism of propulsive beats, electronic chirps, cut-up vocal loops, and swelling orchestration. The drums bounce, coil, and slide on the celestial sounds of “Beaten Thursdays,” while the jazzy hi-hats of “Smoking Red” are matched with squelchy sci-fi effects. On the avant-garde “Spacious and Dissonant, Pt. 2,” the Florida-born producer adds doomed strings to the extraterrestrial vibes, connecting classical instrumentation to the outer cosmos.
