About
This release pairs two Fu Manchu EPs from their late-'90s heyday. Released in 1997, Godzilla was anchored by a conclusive reading of Blue Oyster Cult’s “Godzilla,” one of the blueprint songs for Fu Manchu. Fuzzed-out guitar oozes from the song like molten chocolate from a French dessert. 1999’s Eatin’ Dust is even better. Bolstered by the addition of new members Brant Bjork and Bob Balch—not to mention Josh Homme, who contributed percussion—“Shift Kicker,” “Mongoose,” and “Module Overload” display a band charged by new energy. While they had always boasted a big engine, these songs show them shooting down the highway with the windows open.
