Thurston Moore recorded his fifth solo album in just six days with Coldplay/Adele producer Paul Epworth. Ignore anything that suggests brevity or big hooks though. Opener “Exalted” sets the sprawling tone, tangling noise and discord around its looping grooves and melodies for 12 minutes. A snarling rhythm section of Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley and My Bloody Valentine bassist Debbie Googe maintains order throughout, enforcing military rigor on bracing ode to springtime “Cusp” and steadily coaxing along sinuous guitars on “Smoke of Dreams.”
