About
Early singles such as “Junk Food Forever” established The Amazons as specialists in indie rock anthems full of punchy riffs and choruses that sparkle and soar like skyrockets. There’s plenty more of that on this sure-footed debut (“Burn My Eyes,” “Holy Roller”), but the quartet also stretch their sound. The pile-driving “Little Something” reaches stoner-rock territory, while, at the other end of the scale, “Palace” contains Matt Thomson’s most measured and intimate vocal yet, framing his emotional intensity in a spare piano ballad.
