Eighteen Visions show no signs of rust on <i>XVIII</i>, their first record after a decade-long breakup. In fact, the Orange County metalcore pioneers sound as brutal as ever, hewing toward glammy heavy metal ("Underneath My Gun"), hypnotic grunge ("Spit"), and sleazy hard-rock sludge ("Picture Perfect"). Occasional movie clips and other sound effects (like the angry swarm of bees on the thrashing intro track, "Crucified") add refreshing grit to their bold sound.
