About
Featuring bandmates who've put in time with Swervedriver, Dean & Britta, and The Comas, the NYC-based Heaven (not the Australian metal band) pulls together a melodic debut album that uses all the tricks of the post-punk trade to deliver a sound that's intricate and psychedelic, poppy but intense. The guitars blister throughout Telepathic Love in the tradition of The Jesus & Mary Chain and/or groups signed to the Creation Records label back in the late '80s and '90s. The title track lightly treads with guitar chords that pulse and shatter the easygoing romantic flow, while “Falling Apple” follows with a sweetened, narcotic, twilight glimmer with vocals under the mix. “Mountains Move” furthers this low-to-the-ground rumble, but with vocals that rise up like in the days of Luna and The House of Love. “New Amsterdam” raises the ambience; “Southern Rain” quiets it down. “Once the Heartache” bounces with pop euphoria. “Centuries” finds an acoustic guitar in the corner before the full studio arrangement shoots the song into space. What year is this anyway?
