About
Split Enz achieved the biggest success of their career with 1980's True Colours, and the follow-up continued to blend the band's urgent, angular new wave side with a sophisticated pop sensibility. Having just penned the band's biggest-ever hit on their previous outing, future Crowded House frontman Neil Finn contributes more songs than ever here. His approach tends toward the winsomely melodic ("One Step Ahead," "History Never Repeats"), while his brother Tim turns out slightly edgier, more new wave–flavored tracks like the breathless "Hard Act to Follow" and the skittering "Clumsy." But whichever Finn is at the helm, the hooks keep flying fast and hard.
