Opening with the atmospheric, keyboard-driven instrumental “Monochrome (Passive),” <i>Clairvoyant</i> solidifies the Indianapolis prog-metal sextet's reputation for balancing technicality and melody. Led by twin brothers Joey (drums) and Robby Baca (guitar), the band plays heavily layered and angular compositions with passages that alternately recall Rush, Meshuggah, and The Contortionist’s contemporaries Between the Buried and Me. Singer Michael Lessard ties it all together with a voice that's both warm and serene.
