Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats just weren't made for these times. Their dedication to vintage rock ‘n’ soul gets deeper on their second album. The sound has the warmth and depth of classic 45 RPM vinyl, and old-school rap producers could have a field day looping the drums on “Shoe Boot.” And like their hardworking soul heroes, they’re stomping on “the one” and riding horn blasts (“Be There”). When they slow it down to a simmer on “Tearing at the Seams” and “Still Out There Running,” they can extract a tear from the most hardened dock worker.
