About
The Buzzcocks first came blasting out of Manchester, England with a tough punk snarl hiding their perfect pop hooks. As time went on, the band modified its approach, aware that punk rock itself could be a stylistic dead end. Steve Diggle takes on more of the songwriting and vocal duties as “Sitting Round At Home” distorts his vocal and shifts its tempo. “Radio Nine” is a quick tag out featuring found sounds. ”Mad Mad Judy” simulates the punk rush of their previous albums with greater grace and texture. “You Say You Don’t Love Me” is a simple punk-romance lament, but “Hollow Inside,” “I Don’t Know What To Do With My Life” and “I Believe,” from leader Pete Shelley, stand as reluctant anthems where the band’s sonic tension makes for a beautiful noise. This deluxe edition features 38 tracks, including demos, singles and live performances from the John Peel radio program with versions every bit as relevant as the official material.
