About
A soulful, R&B-shaded croon, impressive vocal range, and memorable piano melodies mark singer-songwriter Gavin DeGraw debut, Chariot. Not surprisingly, the lyrics center most on love. Whether it be professing it ("More Than Anyone," "Over-Rated,"), giving it to the world ("Meaning"), being cheated by it ("Just Friends"), or waiting for it to happen ("Crush"), DeGraw sings about the many variations of love. At his best, his gruff to lilting vocal on "Follow Through" approaches that of Jeff Buckley, and "Chariot" shows a skillful range that evokes the emotions that aren't always captured lyrically. And his best song, "I Don't Want To Be," could serve as the perfect angst anthem for many teenagers.
