It offers more big, lengthy arrangements of recent pop and soul material, not to mention further inimitable Ike raps. (The quote above is from his version of Jerry Butler’s hit “I Stand Accused.”) This is makeout music that refuses to take a place in the background, and not just because of what-the-heck? moments such as the violin soloist on “Something,” which also inserts “You can’t make me” as an addendum to the lyric “I don’t wanna leave her now.”
