Tangerine Dream kicked off the ‘80s with a subtle shift in their sound, streamlining their space-rock epics into more melodic forms. With a beat reminiscent of Kraftwerk’s motorik grooves, “Chronozon” is the band’s take on electro-funk, squealing leads and all, while “Exit” renders the chugging arpeggios of their ‘70s work in glistening simplicity. The closing “Remote Viewing” initially channels the sprawling drift of their early albums, but even that outer-limits foray—amorphous as a gas cloud—gradually evolves into a clean-lined marvel of pulse and ping.
