About

Buju Banton’s gruff growls rumbled through Jamaican dancehalls in the early ‘90s, but with his international debut, 1993's Voice of Jamaica, the deejay became a worldwide sensation. The album didn’t sand away the roughness of his early work, though, with tracks like “Searching” contrasting the smooth hooks of Wayne Wonder with Banton’s gravel-gargling delivery. Digital blips underpin the tough rhythms of “Deportees (Things Change),” while “A Little More Time” reveals the sweet, gooey core beneath Banton’s harsh outer shell.
