About
Because of Brendan Benson’s slightly melancholic deportment, he can never be dismissed as a purveyor of disposable music. And it’s little wonder that this 2002 album (his second) has earned classic status among smart fans of power pop and singer/songwriters (it’s equal parts Paul McCartney, Graham Nash, and Emitt Rhodes). Coproduced by fellow popster Jason Falkner (ex of Jellyfish and The Grays), this album presents songs such as “Tiny Spark” and “You’re Quiet”: feverish rides through boy-girl innocence. “Eventually” and “Just Like Me” journey straight into Benson’s self-doubting heart. It’s obvious why Jack White formed The Raconteurs with this guy.
