About
This Glen Campbell compilation is a standout. Yes, it contains the prerequisite hits that made Campbell a household name. And with the 2008 and 2009 production remixes here, staples like the dreamy "Wichita Lineman" come pouring from your speakers like honey, and you can almost hear the notes pop off the strings on "By The Time I Get To Phoenix." More up-tempo classics like the urban cowboy themed "Rhinestone Cowboy" and "Southern Nights" sound like you're sitting in the recording studio listening to the producer's playbacks. But there are also less obvious hits from Campbell's quiver like "True Grit," the sweeping title track from the 1969 movie he starred in with John Wayne. And his gorgeous take on the waltzing Conway Twitty tune "It's Only Make Believe" surfaces here as well as the bouncy "Dreams of the Everyday Housewife." The early '70s countrypolitan take on Foo Fighters' "Times Like These" dresses up a 21st century song with all the vintage-sounding instrumentation of the 20th-century Nashville sound to birth a beautiful little anachronism.
