About
Ragged edges and restlessness marked the Londoners’ debut Making Dens but the recruitment of dance DJ Erol Alkan as producer gives their second focus and sheen. “Two Doors Down” is an ’80s pop monster and the urgent funk-rock of “Mj” nods to peak-period Michael Jackson in more than name. Alkan’s polish helps bring out the hooks but Mystery Jets haven’t completely lost their skittishness, and the great pleasure of their songs is still in the unpredictable shifts and turns.
