About
Recorded on June 17, 2004, during Phish’s final tour, Live in Brooklyn captures a world-class band determined to go out on top. As one would expect of such a landmark show—as every date on that farewell tour was—the foursome rose to the occasion. Sounding loose and playful, they stretch out over 21 songs, creating lengthy, energetic jams augmented by precise melodic twists and turns and one inspired solo after another. Reaching deep into their massive catalog, the band offers spirited versions of a few of their rare gems, while also running down some classics with renewed feeling and conviction. Though there is obvious joy in their playing, there's also an unmistakable undercurrent of melancholy befitting the moment of this, the first show they performed after announcing their plan to disband. For rabid fans, this 3-CD set is a necessity; for the uninitiated, the end of their career, as recorded here, may be the best place to begin to understand the legend, as it captures one of the biggest live acts of all time playing at their musical—and emotional—peak.
