About
A protégé of Mac Dre — the outlandishly stylish and highly prolific Don of the Bay Area’s current scene, who was killed in 2004 — Mistah F.A.B.’s finest moment to date is “Ghost Ride It,” a delightful ode to the Bay Area pastime of riding driver-less cars that was set to the Ghostbusters theme. “Ghost Ride It” isn’t included on Da Baydestrian, but F.A.B. delivers a number of high-energy hyphy anthems in its place. “Baydestrians” and “Dem Cars” are perfect illustrations of the Technicolor explosion of F.A.B.’s style. Even though he’s at his best when he’s going hyphy, F.A.B. tries out several different styles on Da Baydestrian, including Jeezy-inspired corner anthems (“Crack Baby Anthem”), rhyme-centric expositions that could almost have come from New York (“100 Bars”), and of course, more than a few of the slang-infested dances that could only be concocted in the Bay Area (now we can all do “The Furley Ghost”!). F.A.B. has taken his charismatic persona and shown he can stretch out and speak to the issues of neighborhoods everywhere without abandoning the one-of-a-kind styles of his hometown.
