Long before Marvel had a cinematic universe, comic book lore received due reverence from rappers, many of whom grew up devouring these tales of superheroes and powered villains. Such youthful indoctrination proved perfect inspiration for Inspectah Deck on the Wu-Tang Clan classic “Protect Ya Neck” and 7L & Esoteric on their early works. All three harness that cosmic energy for their ongoing CZARFACE project, which, after some time linking with the similarly situated MF DOOM, rages on with <i>The Odd Czar Against Us</i>. Hip-hop legends incapable of losing momentum, the trio seem to be having the time of their lives on smirking and boastful tracks like “Bizarro” and “Couch.”
