About

These 90 songs track The Byrds’ flight path as career-long pioneers. In the mid-’60s, they injected Dylan songs with snappy beats, jangling guitars, and sweet harmonies (“Mr. Tambourine Man”). Then they dressed up social commentary in supremely catchy pop tunes (“So You Want to Be a Rock ’N’ Roll Star”) and tripped out with wildly adventurous psych (“Eight Miles High”). Finally, they married country cadences with chiming rock (“Hickory Wind”), taking the traditional and making it something all their own.
