About

Released in the U.K. in 2009 and the U.S. in 2010 but recorded in 1992 as the demos to the follow-up to Jordan: The Comeback, Let’s Change the World With Music is as great as any album ever recorded by Prefab Sprout. It’s Paddy McAloon all alone and it’s as if it’s a fully finished album. McAloon is in his own rarified world where the simple basics of singer-songwriterdom are paired with complex keyboards and Steely Dan perfectionism. But underneath the meticulous craft of the arrangements rest heartfelt sentiments such as “God Watch Over You,” “Music Is a Princess” and “Last of the Great Romantics.” “Falling In Love” features a grand sweep that makes it sound like an anthem for all-time. The entire album is based on a concept of music as a redeeming force in the universe. If God speaks, McAloon appears to believe, it is through the healing powers of music. Pretty powerful, considering McAloon has suffered both hearing and vision issues over the past years.
