Preservation: Act 1 is a 1973 concept album by the English rock group The Kinks. Preservation Act 1 by The Kinks (1973) did not enter the UK Top 50 official album chart. It was a commercial disappointment at the time of its release, although it achieved a peak position of #177 on the U.S. Billboard 200. Many hardcore Kinks fans were alienated by Ray Davies' melodramatic songwriting during the Preservation project era, resulting in albums that played more like the soundtracks to a piece of musical theatre than rock albums.
