After devoting much energy to building walls of sound, Ride eased up on the guitar pedals on their third album, <i>Carnival of Light</i>. This set highlights the ‘60s and ‘70s influences previously obscured by their shoegaze swirl. Ride kept pace with their Britpop peers with beguiling excursions into Byrds-style jangle (“From Time to Time”) and florid psychedelic rock (“Birdman”), striking an especially canny balance between past and present with a ferocious take on The Creation’s “How Does It Feel to Feel.”
