About
Following two well-received EPs, Lush released Gala, the gorgeous full-length that turned them into one of the most beloved British bands of their era. In both sound and title, “Sweetness and Light” is emblematic of their aesthetic. While My Bloody Valentine offered typhoons of guitar that crashed over listeners with majestic fury, Lush lifted up their listeners into a cumulus cloud of soft-hued moisture. They weren’t as ethereal as they were made out to be—as proven by the restless hit “De-Luxe”—but they found ways to be soothing without ever becoming lethargic.
