Just when it seems that the concept of an indie-rock-oriented act having more experimental, electronic and hip-hop contemporaries remix their material is as played out as it possibly can be, the Seattle-based Minus the Bear flips the script with <i>Interpretaciones del Oso</i>. From the ambient, washed-out, rap-singing approach of Fog to Plan B's beat-driven apocalypse, this is the increasingly rare remix record that stands on its own as a lovely bit of collaboration. The award for standout track goes to O, Hunter's remarkable and beautifully layered remix of "The Pig War." The best remixes are entirely new songs with just a fading memory of the old number, and this song, by Morgan from the Blood Brothers, fits the bill perfectly.
