About

Based on the primal principle that a basic riff repeated to infinity eventually morphs and transcends to an alternate realm, Brooklyn’s Oneida take the hypnotic Krautrock rhythms of Can, the solidarity riffs of the Stooges, and the abrasive, art-punk poses of Suicide and push forth Preeteen Weaponry, an ambitious, unapologetic magnum opus that according to the group is the first of a “triptych of releases, which will lay bare the band’s colossal vision of a new age in music.” Lofty words and ambitions for sure (part two of this triptych is a triple album named Rated O scheduled for release in early 2009), but then Oneida have never kow-towed to the comfy confines of their hipster Brooklyn neighborhood. They've always resolutely stood outside the gates playing according to their own whims. The three selections here, listed as three numerical parts of the title track, are primarily instrumental juggernauts (track 2 has some medieval styled chanting), filled with anxious yet soothing rhythms and layers of tones that sound a bit like Pink Floyd playing to a drum machine that’s gone maddeningly out of control. Perfect for meditating, if you’re looking to meditate in overdrive.
