About

Ned Doheny’s second album has become one of L.A.’s phantom treasures, a rarely heard gem of Laurel Canyon songwriter folk, mellow-down-easy keyboards, sexy R&B beach rhythms, Steely Dan–style jazz, and flashing teeth. Produced by the legendary Stax man Steve Cropper, the 1976 set features guest appearances from a roundtable of mellow-mafia scenesters, including The Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, and J.D. Souther, plus Tower of Power’s horn section. And it sounds like it: “Get It Up for Your Love” and “A Love of Your Own” (also recorded by The Average White Band) set a sunset-like tone that carries throughout, finishing with the piano-bar nightcap “Valentine.”
