Bonnie Raitt’s second LP perfected the jaw-dropping fusion of soul, jazz, and rock that would come to define her whole career. The opener, "Give It Up or Let Me Go," says it all; after a sharp, twangy blues-guitar intro, the song takes off with an ecstatic drumbeat and then, from out of nowhere, a roiling New Orleans brass section. Songs like “Love Me Like a Man” show off Raitt’s sensuous, powerful pipes, while "Nothing Seems to Matter" is as soft and tender as folk can be.
