About
Fans of Four Year Strong have been rabidly anticipating the quintet’s third studio album because it is the band’s second offering of original material. And though Enemy of the World contains no riotous renditions of dirty-denim decade ditties like Explains It All, it still rides on hilarious, punch-throwing tunes with barbed hooks. Case in point: “It Must Really Suck to Be Four Year Strong Right Now” opens with lyrics that are both funny and emo, triumphant gang-vocals, and more explosive zeal than a case of extreme energy drinks. Anyone cynical of the pop-punk genre’s obvious trappings may find it hard to hate on Enemy of the World. Four Year Strong do this sound really well, and the obvious fun they had recording it is contagious. Even songs with more serious subjects have funny titles. “Nineteen With Neck Tats” muses on a friend who is so hardcore that he’s slipping away to the dark side of self-destruction while “What The Hell Is a Gigawatt?” is a Ritalin-deprived number that jokes on a Back to the Future reference in the title before lyrically lamenting a relationship gone south.
