About

The Time of Our Lives was originally recorded to celebrate/promote Cyrus’ collaborative clothing line with French fashion designer Max Azria (with ample help from producers Dr. Luke and John Shanks). These songs still sound polished to a high sheen with tons of that glossy Disney production, but from the opening of “Kicking and Screaming” you’ll notice cranked guitars hoisting Cyrus’ sassy singing. “Party In the U.S.A.” bubbles and floats on the same kind of mall-cruising pop found on 2008’s Breakout, but the brooding ballad “When I Look At You” reveals an emotionally maturing young singer. The title-track is one of those soaring feel-good songs that tend to accompany cinematic shopping montages where everyone engages in some sort of retail therapy with hilarious results. But Cyrus brings back the rock with lots of guitar distortion and attitude on “Talk Is Cheap” before closing with a couple of slow-burning numbers — the most celebrated being “Before the Storm,” a live duet with teen heartthrobs the Jonas Brothers.
