There’s nothing subtle about the title of Rich Homie Quan’s 2013 mixtape <i>I Promise I Will Never Stop Going In</i>. Though it’s a mouthful to say, the late Atlanta stalwart spends the duration of the project efficiently confirming this thesis. The project followed a particular format Quan was fond of; see, for instance 2012’s <i>I Go In on Every Song</i> and <i>Still Goin In</i>, also from 2012. <i>I Promise</i>, however, signaled a new era for the melodic dynamo. Quan works with Young Thug, spitting over woozy synths and trap-inspired snare drum rolls, on “Get TF Out My Face.” The two have a palpable chemistry, but Quan stars on his own, too. Take “1000,” where he showcases that inimitable ability to spin silky melodies out of thin air. The track perfectly summarizes Quan’s ability to unveil clever one-liners that have deeper meanings, too. He raps: “I done made a million dollars and I ain't even go to college/I heard you were talking, let me find out you ain't 'bout it.”
