Prefab Sprout never caught on beyond college radio in the United States. Their gentle whisper of jazz-tinged synth-pop with subtle lyrical shadings never resonated with the masses in the heartland. But throughout the ‘80s and sporadically in the ‘90s, Sprout issued recordings that remain among the era’s most intriguing. Paddy McAloon’s soulful croon matched with ominous backing vocals and keyboard-guitar weaves made for a distinctive sound.
