About
A bandleader and sax player from New York City, Jimmy Castor put out 14 funk, soul, and disco records between 1968 and 1983, and he's best known for his 1972 smash single "Troglodyte (Cave Man)." He's been rampantly sampled by hip-hop producers for many decades now, so even if you don't know who he is, you've very likely heard at least a snippet of his music. Butt of Course came out back in 1975, and like much of his work, it features rip-roaring party anthems (the goofy big-girl jam "Bertha Butt Boogie"), laaaaiiid-back slow jams (a great sax-driven instrumental version of "You Make Me Feel Brand New"), and straight-up disco joints (the aptly titled "Let's Party Now"). Though he passed away in 2012, Jimmy Castor and his good-time music will live on forever in clubs, remixes, and new rap songs. Other gems include the socially conscious "Hallucinations" and the wah wah–heavy "Potential."
