About

Judas Priest’s debut gets some of its sludgy gloom from early Black Sabbath producer Rodger Bain. The proggy title track is built from a doom-laden funk groove that’s as persistent as a metronome, while “Dying to Meet You” is downright funereal, with Rob Halford moaning like the devil over massive blues riffs. The band kick into high gear on a galloping version of Joan Baez’s “Diamonds and Rust,” laying groundwork for the tight, assaultive metal that dominates their later records.
