About

Kris Kristofferson's ‘70s collaborations with then-wife Rita Coolidge were something of a busman's holiday. But the second of their three albums together, Breakaway, actually features only three songs from the outlaw-country maverick. In taking a backseat, Kristofferson afforded himself the opportunity to explore some new stylistic avenues, covering tunes like Gib Guilbeau's Cajun-flavored "Sweet Susannah" and the Sherman Brothers’ jazzy ballad "The Things I Might Have Been," while Coolidge’s honeyed tones make for the ideal complement to her husband’s raw, husky pipes.
