About
Nothing against the Eagles or the Flying Burrito Brothers, but nobody plays ‘70s country rock in a live setting better than Poco. Setlist: The Very Best of Poco (Live) may be proof of this — it compiles the band’s best live moments to play like one grandiose concert. Right from the opening cut “C’mon” their flawless, airtight harmonies soar over twangy guitars and a solid meat-and-potatoes rhythm section. Dusting off a gem from his tenure with the seminal Buffalo Springfield, Richie Furay revisits the amorous ballad “Kind Woman” singing a nearly six-minute version of the tune like his life depended on it — though at times he’s nearly upstaged by Rusty Young’s amazing pedal-steel picking skills. They pick up the pace on a barn-burning rendition of “You’d Better Think Twice” before sewing together “Hard Luck” with “Child's Claim to Fame” (another Buffalo Springfield chestnut) and “Pickin Up the Pieces” to make for a near-perfect medley.
