About
Scorpions wrote at least a dozen fist-pumping rock tunes at the dawn of the '80s, but none were as catchy as 1984’s “Rock You Like a Hurricane.” With its tense, moody verses building to the ultimate sing-along chorus, “Hurricane” seemed to be the culmination of everything the group had been working toward since the 1979 release of Lovedrive. They were well rewarded: the song was a big hit, but it grew even bigger in the years to follow, becoming a pre-eminent emblem of '80s hard rock. The only downside to “Hurricane” was that it overshadowed the rest of the album. Producer Dieter Dierks gave the music more texture and atmosphere this time around. Dynamic songs like “Bad Boys Running Wild” and “The Same Thrill” surge from the speakers, electrified by Rudolph Schenker’s missile-like guitar leads. Singer Klaus Meine had a great voice for ballads, as proven by the finale, “Still Loving You,” a rare example of a power ballad that's as chilling as it is lustful.
