Voyager’s soaring vocals, blockbuster guitar riffs, and grandiose theatrical flourishes made the Perth act a natural choice to represent Australia at Eurovision in 2023. Their entry song “Promise”—which earned Voyager a top-10 finish—is included on the band’s eighth album, where it slots right in alongside other dynamic prog-metal anthems. Led by singer and keytarist Danny Estrin, Voyager surges through songs inspired partly by earnest 1980s and ’90s cinema. Sean Harmanis from metalcore battlers Make Them Suffer joins Estrin for a vocal team-up on “Ultraviolet,” contrasting Estrin’s clean, resounding delivery with Harmanis’ guttural growl. Other tracks focus more on gleaming electronic melodies, while “Twisted” taps the band’s power-ballad potential. <i>Fearless in Love</i> may not be able to fully capture Voyager’s pyrotechnic-streaked live sets, but their outsized showmanship absolutely comes through here.
