The 1998 debut from Jay Reatard’s formative Memphis garage-punk band was reissued after his 2010 death, bolstered by a pair of cassette-only early releases. Cumulatively, these 39 songs show the trio’s untamed lo-fi savagery as well as their appreciation for early rock ‘n’ roll, thanks to gloriously in-the-red covers of The Beatles and Buddy Holly. The noise-corroded “Memphis Blues” is a screaming, sneering ode to wasted youth and unrequited love that still cuts deep, while “You Ain’t No Fun No Mo” gleefully throttles rockabilly.
