About
Bringing together arty college-radio kids and throw-the-horns hard rockers, Perry Farrell's provocative lyrics and confrontational presence spoke to disaffected teens of all stripes. The Zeppelin-like power and fury of tracks like the swaggering "Ocean Size" and near-psychedelic "Mountain Song" turned Dave Navarro into a new generation's guitar hero. But this L.A. band wasn't interested in straightforward Sunset Strip hard rock: Acoustic character study "Jane Says," the horn-driven funk of "Idiots Rule," and howling rocker "Pig’s in Zen" show a far more eccentric sensibility.
