Willie’s weathered yet always-elegant tenor combines with Ray’s rich baritone on tracks ranging from Bob Wills’ loping shuffle “Deep Water” to Floyd Tillman’s jazz-laced “This Cold War With You.” They’re masterful at serving up heartache with a wry twist on tracks like the Nelson-penned “I’ve Just Destroyed The World I’m Living In” and Price’s “Soft Rain.” And when they lighten the mood in “Home In San Antone,” the effect is sure to raise a smile. Willie and Ray are ably supported by their five-piece backup combo, with David Zettner’s dancing pedal steel lines and Bobby Floores’ poignant fiddle deserving particular praise.
