Recorded on 17th April 1961 for the Blue Note Label. The Quintet led by Donald Byrd consisted of Donald Byrd on trumpet, Pepper Adams on Baritone Sax, Herbie Hancock on Piano, Doug Watkins on Bass and Eddy Robinson on Drums. This album is possibly the first recording date ever for Herbie Hancock. Although Sophisticated Lady is credited to Donald Byrd he in fact lay out and the entire track is devoted to some brilliant baritone sax by Pepper Adams. .
