About
The title song of 2007’s We Must Obey is one of the definitive Fu Manchu songs. Its surging, downtuned riff gives way to a shouted chorus, thereby uniting the band’s love for stoner metal with their roots in hardcore punk. Songs like “Knew It All Along,” “Let Me Out,” and “Didn’t Really Try” are as charged by the rage of Minor Threat and Black Flag as they are Black Sabbath. Still, no band are better at celebrating the spirit of '70s, as Fu Manchu does with the swirling “Shake It Loose” and a hulking cover of The Cars’ “Moving in Stereo.”
