About

If something seems familiar about Natalia Kills, it could be that prior to adopting this image and sound she starred in the BBC sitcom All About Me before rapping under the Verbalicious moniker. As Natalia Kills, her music actually plays a lot like a darker, British response to Lady Gaga. The opening dance-pop diva cut “Wonderland” swaps out Gaga’s mirthful musings for some slightly sinister fantasy fables. But it’s not like any of this is coincidental. Kills even armed herself with a quiver of Gaga’s producers for Perfectionist including Akon, Fernando Garibay and Martin Kierszenbaum — which may be why songs like the delightfully dramatic “Superficial” and the shopping anthem “Free” featuring will.i.am both sound like sibling songs to those comprising The Fame Monster. Still, the shadowy comic book allegories of “Kill My Boyfriend” (on the Deluxe Version) and “Love Is a Suicide” reveal more originality.
