Trivium's fifth album is a no-holds-barred sensory assault predicated on thrashing riffage and oscillating metalcore vocals. For the former, look no further than their guitar onslaughts: "Dusk Dismantled" rides a doomy death-metal gallop, while the title track fluctuates between periods of concrete-hammering riffs and echoes of '90s psychedelic metal. On the latter tip, "Inception of the End" creates tension by layering gruff melodic exhortations over raspy barking, and the brisk headbanger "Watch the World Burn" generates friction with its shadowy, unhinged vocal jawing.
